Should I go shorter?

That’s a question many women ask their friends and most importantly their hairdresser. How do you know if wearing a short hairstyle is right for you? If you want to accentuate features like your eyes, lips or graceful long neck all while showing off your strong sense of self, then one of these short ladies hairstyles might be right for you. Here are a few easy to style looks that are sure to flatter anyone.

Pixie Cut: A classic short hairstyle

A short haircut popularized in the 1950s by Audrey Hepburn this cute short hairstyle is still fashioned today. A Pixie haircut is generally short on the sides and back, but worn with varied lengths on top. Ideal for light to medium texture hair, this look is very easy to style. If your hair is long and you’re considering a pixie, the experience of going shorter can be quite liberating once you lose all that hair. The challenge with this style is that it does require frequent visits to the salon depending on how fast your hair grows.

The Bob: A chic short hairstyle

Classic, curly, A-line, or  asymmetrical, the bob hairstyle was made chic in the 1960s by Vidal Sassoon. A bob haircut is defined as falling above the sholder and below the ear. This haircut can be combined with a fringe (or “bangs”). A bob works best on fine to medium hair texture. This hair style is recommended for those with an active lifestyle or looking for less maintenance. However, pulling your hair back into that posh style is out of the question.

Short Shag: An almost effortless short style

The Shag was first made popular in the 1970s by Joan Jett and Jane Fonda, but is very in vogue today. A shag haircut is a culmination of evenly distributing layers from the shortest layers at the top of the head to the longest lengths at the bottom. This visually effortless look, often referred to as “bedhead”, works best with thick hair and is easy to keep up with. If your hair is naturally curly or fine, a short shag is not a recommended style.
